There are also downsides to PHP. When you have millions of visitors to your site and you need faster response times, you'll likely need to switch over to JSP or ASP.NET

Have to admit im new to PHP and as someone who understands HTML and CSS better, I have found it a real learning curve.

However if you want to use a CMS like Wordpress or Joomla then you will likely need to learn at least the basics.
