I think it is very important if you want to be successful in affiliate marketing to have your own website(s). I know it's possible to sell products without it, but why do it that way? Owning your own site affords you total control over content, promotion, etc and it doesn't cost very much.

You really don't beed a full blown site. It could just be a one page site where you are collecting leads to build your list. I wouldn't start out building a full blown site. How do you know if the subject you picked is a profitable one? If its not chances are its not going to convert into sales. so basically in building an "actual site" you wasted all that time in creating content. So it would be a big waste of time.. If your landing page converts into buyers then I would think about building a full site you will have followers who trust you..
