My son was born about 2 years ago with a cleft lip and pallatte. He has what I think is the best surgeon. He has only had 2 surgeries so far and you would never tell it. I've heard of lots of stories from parents that there kids had numerous surgies for the same thing. I do realize that not all cleft issues are the same. But even the nurse had told me of the way they use to use an item with screws that you had to tighten to stretch the lip out for surgery. My son had to use tape and a retainer type of thing. A much better way to go. However, from what I've heard this is a new procedure and not all surgeons are doing it. I highly recommend this procedure over some of the other ways I've heard. Oh, and also he didn't have his first surgery till 6 months, unlike the 3 weeks I've also been told for most kids.
