Will making a 301 redirect affect ranking?

I am in idea of redirecting non www version of my home page URL to www version. Will this affect my ranking in SERP?

It should not effect your rank, it is just a link for the engines to follow to your site. If you change your DNS or hosting it does not effect rank. Just make sure your site has a site map and is crawl-able by the engines. You can also re submit your site to the engines.

The 301 redirect is to help you get best use of the search engines by the fact if the url is targeted without the www it is redirect to the www for optimum search results.

That might cause a temporary fluctuation in rankings
But don't worry, things will bounce back to normal soon.

If I have more backlinks for my non www version, will the same credit will be passed to the redirected new URL.?
