It play a great role to generate traffic toward your site and helps in boasting page rank of your website... You can also promote your products,services,business and website... simple post the updates of your things in your account and create a fan page....

Social media marketing is one of the main strategies in my marketing plan. Yes it certainly does boost traffic, however I wouldn't really look at social medias role particularly to do this. Think of the long term viral effects it can have on your business by making the community you operate in bigger, widen your reach to other people in your industry and to build strong lasting business and customer relationships.
