Default Quality versus Quantity

I thought that I would put my two cents in with the "quality over quantity" which seems to take on many forms depending on who you are talking with, however, with the attribute of increasing PR, the best method is to get links from pages (actual PR pages) from higher PR than yours, i.e. if you want to go to PR 6 then find a good PR 8 link with minimal outbound links. I have tried it myself, and one PR 8 link will give you a PR 6, furthermore, if you are building from a variety of other places to increase serps you may even get lucky and have a PR 7. Now a high PR doesn't mean you are going to rank well in the serps, based on data the search engines take impressions into consideration so the site that is PR 6 from the PR 8 link will very little impressions and will not show up in the serps, therefore you have to have a combination of high PR links, and impression links with your anchor text keyword to get the best effect, while consistently adding pages to your site with great content.

Pr is myth now . No guarentee that if you get a backlinks from PR 8 site & you are on the top . You need link diversity to get good SERP in Google, yahoo, bing etc

This might give you a different view point:

What Google Thinks About PageRank
Let’s get started by going straight to the horse’s mouth. This is what Google itself says about PageRank:
“Don’t bother thinking about it [PageRank]. We only update the PageRank displayed in Google Toolbar a few times a year; this is our respectful hint for you to worry less about PageRank, which is just one of over 200 signals that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and ranked.

PageRank is an easy metric to focus on, but just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s useful for you as a site owner. If you’re looking for metrics, we’d encourage you to check out Analytics, think about conversion rates, ROI (return on investment), relevancy, or other metrics that actually correlate to meaningful gains for your website or business.” (Source: Google Webmaster Central FAQ)

Google’s Director of Research, Peter Norvig, said that PageRank is overhyped and probably needs a new name. Norvig went onto say that the public’s focus on PageRank is misguided and it may be time for a new name.

This argument reminds me of my days in the fitness industry. Everyone was obsessed with calories. Calories are a measurement of energy and are made up of different macro nutrients, it depends what they are made up of, not the number of them... I won't go into the whole thing.

My point is PR is just a measurement that webmasters like to keep an eye on, great for their CV's and for ads on their websites to advertise their services. Other than that it is of little value to the general website owner.

Ironically if you concerntrate on driving quality traffic to your site in an upward trend over a period of months, then your PR often tends to go up when Google update PageRank anyway. Concerntrate on targeted traffic, not PR.

On the topic of PR, the other posters got it covered and PR isn't that big of a deal (at least for you to rank well). The topic title is more true than what you said; as in, having quality+unique content is much more important nowadays for ranking well. Panda smacked quite a few sites, so to ensure you don't get smacked, having quality content is really important (I would say much more important than having like 20 backlinks to seo directories), but that's just my 2cents

Search engine loves loves quality of back-link not quantity of back-link. So, you should go for quality of back-link for your website.

Page Rank goes in algorithmic scale where if you are able to get a link from a PR 6 follow site it is approximately 125 time more than a PR 3 link. Now if you are able to get anchor text links with pages that have high PR, 3 or above, your search engines results increase. I am not talking about the PR of your site, this is where the confusion takes place. The links you get pointing back to your site are valuable, and if they have high PR then the links are that more valuable.

In theory you have two trains of thought in this thread:

1. I want links from PR 0 pages

2. I would rather have links from PR 3 and above?

Considering all would be follow in theory, which would you rather have?

Unless you are using PR to sell your site or ad space, I do not see any value in PR...

I consistently maintain sites on page one Google and do not pay any attention to PR.....))

I agree with you that you can get great serps with minimal or no PR. That is not what I am stating. What I am trying to say, with everyone wanting to get a higher PR to their site for whatever reasons, the best way is to get the follow links from sites that have PR higher than yours. I never mentioned in the first post that PR would increase serps, that was brought into the conversation; and the fact of the matter is many are looking to increase PR, and I must say, the fact is, PR does matter, when it comes to authority and link baiting to your site; if you have a high PR, then others naturally want to link to it.

As per my opinion if we talking about quality and quantity as SEO's point of view so SEO always work's for quality not quantity. Because SEO works for google search and if we done a less but quality work so it is useful for our site but if we only incresse the quanity of our work and quality is not improve so this work is usless for us.
