It is said that for every page rank increase, the power of the back link increases by a factor of 10. So it is obviously great to get a dofollow link from a high PR page (I think dofollow is a recognized term if not factually correct).
Here are three articles on do follow and no follow backlinks. There is also a tool that is free for finding do follow blogs/sites. Also look for sites that have commentluv. This gives you an extra back link if you have a blog, as it links to your latest blog post. My blog has both do follow and comment luv. I hope this helps.
