Ok, here's what I do:

Teach companies how to market their business online (one on one tuition)
Adsense sites (not this one!)
Server administration, programming
Sometimes design websites
Buy/Sell (Trade) Websites and domain names
Music production (i've got a record label and release music on itunes etc.)

Some of these things don't make tons of money at the moment but have the potential to make loads.

It takes time to build up a business, the best way of making money is to do things for other people, or teach people something you know a lot about.

Yeah the best way is as said, provide a service that people are looking for and don't make it something extravagent that costs loads. Plus making it creative, yet not to creative, is also a good little idea.

I host my own website and came up with the idea of providing free information while having a place for advertisers to advertise, at first it went kinda slow.

Then I looked at it a bit and thought what people really want, i.e. what I would want and came up with the BIG $$$ idea, now it is starting to intrigue people a whole lot more than it did before.

Point is, find a service or something that people want and are willing to pay for, plus if you can give them something in return on top of the service, like my BIG $$$ idea, it doesn't hurt.

I've done consulting and other businesses from home, but having an office space is nice too b/c it can get annoying to me being home all the time lol, less distraction then at home also lol.

NETWORK MARKETING....if u're not familiar with it, it's the same as affiliate marketing but u dont get paid for people clicking on ads, u get paid for getting referrals who buy the company's product then u get the exact same commission if any of ur referrals gets his own referrals. i work with Qnet, now i'm making at least $5000 with very little effort , so i decided to launch a simple website telling people about the idea and helping them expand their network...it's really a chance for every1 to make his living working at home and i'm really thankful for the one who told me about it in the first place. for more information here's a link to my site (qnet-team.co.cc)
