Forums are much more direct, so you can show that you know what you're talking by answering real questions people have instead of someone taking your word for it based on your article!
Also, forums keep you grounded in the reality of what is really needed by people if you want to make a product, rather than guessing.
Another thing is that forums give a much better connection to people because you have a dialog going on, you get to know people and become part of a community (if you stick around long enough!)
One last thing to think about, would you rather help people and talk with people or just sit there on your own and write articles about different subjects that you think people might be interested about?
