In my opinion there is not one marketing method that works for all different types of businesses.

But what i can say is the most effective methods are:

1. Recommendation marketing (get someone else to talk about you and your services, in return for the same back - works best with a group of people with existing customers)
2. Joint Ventures (getting other people to promote your product as an affiliate)
3. Advertising (done right: sending customers to a low-priced offer or a squeeze page)
4. Providing valuable content (through online videos, articles, blogs, forums etc. to bond with your customer, get them to trust you and know that you are the real deal)
5. Selling directly to the marketplace (using ebay or a forum with areas devoted to selling.)

I hope this helps! Everything else is just the nuts and bolts that puts it all together.

Great advice... Its important though to find one strategy and learn to master it before you move onto the next. This way you will see much better results in the long term.

Developing an online marketing strategy is no different in that it is critical that you gain an understanding of your target market and your competitors.

you have to understand where you are and what can you do.

Strategy Development
Monitoring Performance

I would suggest you to go for online marketing i.e Search Engine Optimization. This is the better marketing strategy with less manpower from which you can bring your business top on worldwide basis.

Thats an age old question that everyone wishes there was on simple answer to.

What has worked for me was to slowly(2 years now I might add) build an online presence with sincerity.The first thing I did was decide on how I wanted to market.My Inbox still gets about 50 mails a day form marketers which I use to find new opportunites to market.Join a few, theyre worthy reasearch tools. I like web 2.0 because I can post pictures of my products and web2.0 is generally well recieved by the search engines. So I chose article marketing as my base to work from.I pesonally dont like affiliate marketing because I am building a passive income from Google adsense and I want all the work I have done over the last 2 years to still be online in another 10 years. Basically I'm building a snowball of income. Just one article a day for a year is 365 articles. I'm thinking long term, but its only my 2 cents worth of opinion. Whatever you decide, I wish you luck in your quest.

I would say Pay Per Performance marketing, i don't mean SEM, but companies that work on actual results delivered only on performance basis. Some companies that i have come accross are resultfirst and webfishery

Email marketing is one of IF NOT the most effective form of marketing because you can turn one customer into a recurring customer

I definitely agree on what you've said. Online marketing may vary its effectiveness on the type of business you are running. I would also like to add SEO as an effective marketing technique online because it is also one of the proven effective technique in online marketing.
