This blogger really got me upset. Checkout my reply.
I was reading a post last night about how much newbies cry and whine because they are so unsuccessful. The owner of the blog receives a lot of questions and comments from newbies, but that is no reason to start personally attacking newbies out of frustration.
I kinda got upset and decided to write something for people struggling online. What I want to do is talk to you about 1 important fundamental tasked that each and every business should do, and that is a competitive analysis. If your business is struggling at this moment, then you should really check this out. I hope that the information inspires and helps you compete more effective against the completion, which in turn would increase your online income
The competitive analysis is all about tracking your competition, thats obvious. I have my ways of conducting the analysis, but I learn that from the books, a online business should to take a different approach to say the least. Here goes.
#1 Swipe file
I have created my own swipe file in order to collect information about my competition. I keep and store the following in my swipe file
Sales letters from my competition. Your content is your greatest weapon or it should be. You really need to know how well you measure up against the competition when it comes to content. If you want to start gaining market share you need to start creating the type of content that gives you and chance to compete. Next, promote that content like crazy
Positioning
You want to know how they are positioning themselves within the market, in other words... how do they want to be perceived by the market. What is their aim? This is important because you don't want to position yourself in the same way that they do. You have to stand out and the results from the competitive analysis will tell you how to do that.
I could go on about the swipe file but I am sure you get the picture
#2 Join them
I have created a separate email account so that I can sign up to news letters, email marketing campaigns and e course training programs that have been created by the competition. This really provides a lot of value for me because I can see how they are marketing to the potential customer on the back end.
If you have not signed up I suggest you give it a try. My mailbox is full and I routinely check it every 3 days just to stay up to date with what's going on. keep this in mind, some of them don't compete with me directly, but I still feel that I can learn A lot from them so I include them anyway.
I actually like some of them a lot and think that they add value to the net. Also, if there is a special Internet marketer out there that you admire, now would be a great time to sign up and start learning from them. Just find the squeeze page and sign up!
Anyway, the point is that all successful companies gather information about the competition. If you walked up to the CEO of Apple and ask him who his top five competitors are, I am sure he could answer that question within seconds.
On the hand, if you asked a newbie that question they might be able to name one. The goal is not to steal from the competition, instead, learn all you can from them. And by all means, chase them, try to compete with them.
If you are struggling online you need to start following the money/success. You can't expect to be the best in your industry if you don't know who the best is right?
Please feel free to share how you track your online competitors and the importance of tracking them.
