Yeah, you're best off setting up your own instance of wordpress for a blog, otherwise you could end up getting closed down for freedom of speech issues as has been in the past.
Also, sometimes you might not want to continue with a blog and its much easier to sell one on your own domain rather than trying to sell a blogspot.com subdomain is much, much more difficult since you don't control it (google does!)
