Well, I can tell you this..
It's not too difficult, see there's only 6-8 seconds to catch the eye of the person viewing a site, if that! so it really has to appeal to their tastes, now the majority of people would prefer a very corporate looking, professional site, with a modern style, so that's what is best to aim for.
Other people may have their own personal prefferences such as pink dots and flowers all around it but anyone else who sees that just wont take them seriously.
